Architects need a sustaiNING rather than a sustainable strategy

says William Mac Donough in an interview published in issue n.210 of Resurgence magazine (2002 ), I reread yesterday. I want to share with you these few extracts” We don’t really use the word sustainable in our work, because  sustainable is not that interesting. I mean, who wants to  celebrate maintenance?, We want to celebrate the abundance of the world and the generosity of spirit. So we are looking for a sustaiNING strategy. Then you can have all the hot water you want so long as it is solar heated. The philosophy of the work I do is really about community. When we begin a project… we think of ourselves as creating an environment for a community. And we start with the idea of ALL species in that community..We ask how do we love all the children of ALL species for ALL time.

Together with chemist Michael Braungart he also is at the origin of the CRADLE TO CRADLE strategy.

I have already posted this video last year, but can’t remember when.
